Every price we give comes after somebody has looked at the actual tree. Tree work does not quote reliably over the phone, because the number is driven by things you cannot describe accurately from memory: how much clear space is under the canopy, whether a truck can get within reach, what is directly beneath the limbs, and how the tree is actually put together at the unions.

That last one matters more than size. A sixty-foot tree with a single straight stem and a clear drop zone is a straightforward job. A forty-foot tree with a split fork, a screened pool on one side and a service drop on the other has to come down piece by piece on ropes, and it will take most of a day. Height alone tells you very little about cost.

Access is the other half of it. Where equipment reaches the tree, work goes quickly and safely. Where it does not: soft ground toward the marshes west of Homosassa, long narrow lots on the Inverness lakefront, gaps between houses on the Beverly Hills lots: everything gets rigged by hand, which is slower and prices accordingly. Telling us honestly what the approach looks like when you call gets you a more accurate number and fewer surprises.

Permits are worth settling before scheduling rather than after. Citrus County's incorporated cities set their own tree ordinances and they are not the same as the unincorporated county's rules, and Dunnellon is in Marion County entirely. The order services get done in matters more than people expect. If a tree is coming down and the stump is going with it, grinding after removal is straightforward. If the stump is staying for now, say so: leaving a taller stump gives a grinder something to work with later, whereas cutting flush to the ground on a large tree can make the eventual grind harder and more expensive. It is a thirty-second conversation that saves money six months out.

Similarly, pruning and removal on the same property are usually worth scheduling together rather than separately. Most of the cost in tree work is getting equipment and a crew to the property and set up; the cutting itself is a smaller share than people assume. Two visits means paying that setup twice. If there are three trees you have been thinking about, having all three looked at in one quote is nearly always cheaper than dealing with them one at a time as each becomes urgent.

Emergency work is the exception to all of this. After a storm the sequence is dictated by danger rather than efficiency: what is loaded, what is hung up, what is resting on a structure. That work gets priced differently because it is harder and more dangerous under worse conditions, and it still gets a number before we start. The one thing we will not do is give you a response window we already know we cannot hold.

Across all of it, the quote is written and it is given before work starts. We do not price by the hour on the day, and we do not add a cleanup line at the end. If something genuinely unforeseen turns up mid-job: decay far worse than the exterior suggested, a buried service nobody knew about: we stop and talk to you about it rather than continuing and invoicing the difference.

A word on what these services are actually for, because the names overlap. Removal and trimming are obvious enough. A health assessment is what you want when you do not yet know which of those you need. It is the visit that tells you whether a declining tree is dangerous, treatable, or simply having a bad season. Cabling and bracing is the alternative to removal on a tree with a weak union that is otherwise worth keeping, and it only makes sense while the wood at that union is still sound. Stump grinding is priced separately from removal on purpose, so you can take the tree now and deal with the stump when it suits you.

Lot clearing and tree planting sit at opposite ends of the same decision. Clearing is where the expensive mistake gets made in the first hour: taking down a mature shade tree that a house could have been designed around, and which cannot be replaced within the lifetime of whoever paid for the clearing. Planting is where most losses happen on the day itself, from setting the root flare below grade. Both are jobs where the thinking beforehand matters more than the work.
